New Super Luigi U is played the exact same way as New Super Mario Bros. U, except Mario is not there, so you get to play as Nabbit.

Plot
The story begins in Peach's Castle, when Luigi, Yellow Toad, and Blue Toad were having a meal with Peach. Mario's cap was on the table. All of a sudden, Bowser breaks in and throws Luigi, Yellow Toad, and Blue Toad to the other side of the Mushroom Kingdom, in Acorn Plains. Luigi, Yellow Toad, and Blue Toad have to save Princess Peach...with Mario nowhere to be found! Then Nabbit comes in and joins the team.
When they get to the top of Peach's Castle, they activate a switch to defeat Bowser. But Magikoopa puts a spell on Bowser, making him way bigger! The team defeats Bowser by stomping him 3 times. They then save Peach.
Meanwhile, the Koopalings are leaving Peach Castle on the airship without Bowser. When Bowser gets on the airship, it crashes into a faraway tree. The credits appear, and you can control your character in the background. Try to get the most coins you've ever collected! After the credits, you unlock a new world, Superstar Road, and you unlock the courses by collecting all the star coins in the 8 main worlds. You also unlock a purple Toad house on Secret Island so you can keep track of your records.

- There are hidden Luigis in every course. See if you can find them!
- You can play as Nabbit in single-player mode by holding down ZL on the Gamepad and B on the Wii Remote.
- You can play as your Mii in the final course of Peach's Castle, The Final Battle, by using the instructions above.
- In multi-player games, when you're on the Gamepad, you can help your teammates as Boost Mode.
